Nasim Yazdani
General Statement
Nasim Yazdani’s practice is grounded in the belief that artists have the power to influence perception and contribute to social transformation. Unity in diversity is central to her work, reflecting an appreciation of shared human qualities and individual differences. Based on this understanding, she views humanity as interconnected, much like complementary colours or harmonised notes within a single composition.
Merging representational and abstract art, Nasim Yazdani’s paintings explore meaning in fluid forms and textures. She works through layers and fractures, allowing forms to surface and fade again. Faces appear as traces rather than declarations, suspended between presence and disappearance, questioning superficial borders and isolated notions of identity. Through the interplay of dark and luminous tones, her compositions balance control and release, inviting a slow, attentive gaze to uncover quiet order within apparent chaos. Her strength is when she combines various media and colour palettes to explore unity in diversity and its implications.
Artist’s Statement – The Essence
Nasim Yazdani’s latest collection of acrylic paintings, The Essence, reflects the idea that we all come from one Earth and one universe. Guided by one of her poems, ‘We are all light. We are all shadow. We are all colour. We are all rainbow’, this series moves beyond skin and flesh to explore the profound interconnectedness and oneness of the cosmos.
Nasim’s work emerges through the playful pouring of layers upon layers of paint, of light, and of darkness. She intentionally questions borders in her technique, her style, and her message. Her growing inclination toward abstraction is not a departure from realism but an expansion of her creative exploration, blending the familiar with the new, and celebrating unity in diversity on a deeper level.
Artist’s Statement – The Essence: Shadows
Nasim Yazdani explores the trials that shape our shared human experience, as well as the resilience that rises from them in the second phase of The Essence collection, titled The Essence: Shadows. Working with a palette of deep blacks, rich hues, and chromatic greys, she examines the emotional weight of adversity. The layered textures and contrasts between beams of light piercing through waves of darkness, in her paintings, echo the tension between despair and hope.
She hopes to take the viewers on a journey of reflection and transformation. By deliberately targeting the negative space (the void, the absence, or the unfilled stretch on the canvas) Nasim invites contemplation, revealing that within every shadow lies the potential for healing and renewal. Darkness is never static; it breathes, shifts, and ultimately makes way for light.
